For nearly thirty years, Ernie led the Brooks Institute, advocating on behalf of photography like his father before him and encouraging the pursuits of thousands of up-and-coming photographers.

Affectionately called his "Brookies," past students of the Institute have a tight-knit (and far flung) alumni community. Many gather annually for a diving trip with Ernie.
